Plein air painting in mixed media
The Kaaibeekhoeve in Herselt (Belgium) is a true treasure in the landscape. It has been present since 1686 as a silent witness of many many passersby. I have painted it in-situ from different angles already and there are many more to come, I hope. On this occasion, however, I had just started dipping my toe into painting outside, and was mainly still practicing skills and testing out materials in my studio. So I worked from a photograph I had taken while walking down the river on the left bank side.

Extra info
This series was part of the Grand Bazaar de Merode expo in september 2024 (curated by OXOt vzw) and titled ‘Hier zet ik mij neer’ (freely translated as ‘This is where I will sit down’).
In this blogpost (in Dutch) I share more about how I slowly but steadily rolled into plein air painting.
