Plein air painting in mixed media
It was a warm summer’s evening, close to golden hour and very close to very hungry mosquito’s. I always joke “Oh this drawing only cost me three mosquito bites!” All jokes aside, I had fun sketching this mill in Tongerlo (Belgium). So much so, I sketched it twice! My first sketch was in my mini sketchbook, and obviously the tall mill asked for more space, so I took out its bigger brother, et voilà. The mill is still in use to date and is open to visit on certain days. It’s a beautiful little area where many festivities are being organized.
That’s the beauty of plein air painting… watching the final sketches transports me back in time and place immediately. Instant joy and contentment. I guess that’s why I love sharing my sketching experiences and the sketches themselves. Both on Instagram, as well as through my shop.

Extra info
This series was part of the Grand Bazaar de Merode expo in september 2024 (curated by OXOt vzw) and titled ‘Hier zet ik mij neer’ (freely translated as ‘This is where I will sit down’).
In this blogpost (in Dutch) I share more about how I slowly but steadily rolled into plein air painting.
