Plein air painting in mixed media
The Westerlo town church is beautiful, and the best view can be found in the middle of the road in front of it. Not an option, clearly. But after careful investigation I’ve found some nice spots from which you can see its tower. Some of these spots only work in the colder months, when the trees no longer hide it with their canopies. Here, I sketched the church for the first time while being seated on the bench in front of the pharmacist. Countless times I’ve cycled past that bench, but that moment, I stopped and paused for my kind of meditative moment.

This series was part of the Grand Bazaar de Merode expo in september 2024 (curated by OXOt vzw) and titled ‘Hier zet ik mij neer’ (freely translated as ‘This is where I will sit down’).
