Plein air painting in mixed media
This plein air inspired painting was created from a reference picture I took ‘ergens langs ‘t Neetje’, meaning: somewhere along the Grote Nete river. The spot isn’t far from the Kaaibeekhoeve in Herselt, Belgium (see #01 of this series). In the meantime I have created many more sketches, in-situ, as these preparatory studies gave me the confidence I needed to actually sit down and sketch out in nature. I often post these little treats on my Instagram stories and posts. In July 2024, about a month after I created this sketch, I put together a small portable plein air painting kit. I have been taking it everywhere I go ever since, and the ease and comfort it provides me goes beyond my imagination.

Extra info
This series was part of the Grand Bazaar de Merode expo in september 2024 (curated by OXOt vzw) and titled ‘Hier zet ik mij neer’ (freely translated as ‘This is where I will sit down’).
In this blogpost (in Dutch) I share more about how I slowly but steadily rolled into plein air painting.
