Plein air painting in mixed media
Painted on the same day and from the very same spot as #09 – Tuin gemeentehuis. I remember having gained some confidence and ready to experiment more. The blooming bushes looked so lush and attractive and I wanted to splatter color all over! Started with a watercolor underpainting and added lots of layers of neocolor ii, inktense pencils and colored pencils on top.
Often, I just want to enjoy my drawing hand (I’m a lefty) moving across the page with whatever she get’s her fingers on. Just that. No thinking, just feeling. As soon as the spot is chosen, my plan is acknowledged and straight after that it gets abandoned and some instinct is given free play. Its quite a journey, time and time again, and I regularly share my love for it as well as the results on my Instagram.

Extra info
This series was part of the Grand Bazaar de Merode expo in september 2024 (curated by OXOt vzw) and titled ‘Hier zet ik mij neer’ (freely translated as ‘This is where I will sit down’).
In this blogpost (in Dutch) I share more about how I slowly but steadily rolled into plein air painting.
