Plein air painting in mixed media
This Kwarekkenven (Herselt, Belgium) is probably my second most painted spot, after #05 – Hutje van de gul. Though this type of view can be found elsewhere, I’m convinced many of the people familiar with this one will recognize it immediately. We’ve all tried our best to capture the most spectacular picture of it, and as of July 2024 I’m now painting it (from different angles). On this pretty day (yes, I tend to only get out on pretty days), I gave it a go but I did not at all like the resulting sketch. So in the evening I took another sketchbook and give it another go and this time I could see some of the atmosphere I had initially wanted to capture.
Come find me on Instagram in case you enjoy following along on my plein air painting journey. Since I got infected with that virus back in 2024 I have expanded my painting kits and now the sky is the limit!

Extra info
This series was part of the Grand Bazaar de Merode expo in september 2024 (curated by OXOt vzw) and titled ‘Hier zet ik mij neer’ (freely translated as ‘This is where I will sit down’).
In this blogpost (in Dutch) I share more about how I slowly but steadily rolled into plein air painting.
